When we face a big challenge in historic preservation, we should first ask ourselves about the origin of the challenge. How did we get here? What has been tried before that did not work, why, and how can we adopt a better strategy? Ironically, those who care the most about history sometimes forget to take stock of the history of our own movement and how prior leaders have responded to opportunities and threats? Building on that knowledge is likely to position you for greater success than launching new projects and strategies blindly. This course is not a primer on the substantive history of the preservation movement, rather it provides tactics and tools you can use to discover and critically assess and leverage that history yourself.
