As an aspiring leader in the cultural heritage field, I believe spending my weekend mornings with a nice cup of coffee and ARCUS has strengthened my focus to serve our community. I came to ARCUS with the goal of personal enrichment and career development. Each learning module provided an excellent space to reflect on challenges and opportunities to expand my practice. The learning platform provides the opportunity to brainstorm and think big, while remaining flexible to fit my lifestyle. I encourage cultural resource professionals to invest their time into ARCUS, because you will become energized to take the lead.
I started taking ARCUS courses while I worked on my thesis research. Every course I took helped me immensely in understanding and communicating preservation issues in much greater depth. ARCUS courses have been designed carefully with articles, videos, and other resources that add value to the work of preservation students and professionals.
As someone closely involved in managing online education and professional training for preservationists in California, I recognize the value and rarity of quality professional education for cultural heritage professionals. ARCUS provided me with deeply engaging lessons for everything from Human Resources, to Volunteer Management, Budgeting, and Social Media. These lessons will be a lifelong source of inspiration as I forge ahead in the historic preservation field.

I asked to be part of the ARCUS program to learn more from my peers and influence the direction of cultural resource management and heritage planning moving into the next 50 years of the National Historic Preservation Act […] I also wanted to be part of the discussion about how to preserve resources affected by climate change. ARCUS has given me the opportunity to have these conversations and broaden my horizons.
ARCUS has introduced me to aspects of the preservation profession that I had not considered before but that I know will benefit me as I advance in my career. The resources for the courses are informative and interesting, and the assignments connect what you have just learned with real world applications. I especially enjoyed the in-person training and networking session, and hearing about the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of everyone in our cohort.
